Hydraulics is the mechanical properties of liquids (fluids). Hydraulics has many applications but we are most interested in a type of Fluid-Power Hydraulics. Fluid-Power Hydraulics are hydraulic systems used to maintain, generate, and transmit power. While the penis is not typically considered to be in this category; as the penis becomes erect, it does, indeed, have the ability to transmit power (power that it cannot transmit in a flaccid state; but, yet it does not generate power on its own), so we can (with great liberty) broaden our definition to include the penis as a Fluid-Power-Hydraulic apparatus. The fluid that the penis uses for an erection is Blood.
The male penis (and female clitoris) rely on hydraulics in order to become erect. In the penis are three caverns (or channels) that run the length of the penis. There is a pair of Corpora Cavernosa (which are the main caverns) and a channel of smaller diameter that surrounds the urethra called the Corpus Spongiosum. These caverns are filled with a spongy material to help absorb blood.
During stimulation (either mechanically, chemically, bio-electrically, or mentally) the arteries that feed these three channels open up (dilate) and allow the cardio-vascular system to pump blood into these caverns. At the same time, the veins to these same channels constrict and this (along with the valves in the veins) help keep the blood pressure in the penis and stop the blood from exiting these caverns in the penis. As the blood supply and pressure continue to build, the penis goes from a flaccid state to an erective state.
This process continues until orgasm is achieved or because of lack of interest. After this, the veins dilate and allow the blood to flow out of the penis. The penis thus goes from an erective state to a flaccid state again.
Back to Fluid Power Hydraulics. While we are not using the erect penis to generate or transmit fluid-mechanical-type energy, we are creating a penis that can now transmit power. In its erective state, the penis can be utilized for intercourse which, indeed, can be used as a source of generating and maintaining Power (and pleasure).

Wastewater Hydraulics $159 The second, enlarged edition of this established reference integrates many new insights into wastewater hydraulics. This work serves as a reference for researchers but also is a basis for practicing engineers. It can be used as a text book for graduate students, although it has the characteristics of a reference book. It addresses mainly the sewer hydraulician but also general hydraulic engineers who have to tackle many a problem in daily life, and who will not always find an appropriate solution. Each chapter is introduced with a summary to outline the contents. To illustrate application of the theory, examples are presented to explain the computational procedures. Further, to relate present knowledge to the history of hydraulics, some key dates on noteworthy hydraulicians are quoted. A historical note on the development of wastewater hydraulics is also added. References are given at the end of each chapter, and they are often helpful starting points for further reading. Each notation is defined when introduced, and listed alphabetically at the end of each chapter. This new edition includes in particular sideweirs with throttling pipes, drop shafts with an account on the two-phase flow features, as well as conduit choking due to direct or undular hydraulic jumps. |

Hydraulics and Pneumatics $52.95 Nearly all industrial processes require objects to be moved, manipulated or subjected to some sort of force. This is frequently accomplished by means of electrical equipment (such as motors or solenoids), or via devices driven by air (pneumatics) or liquids (hydraulics). This book has been written by a process control engineer as a guide to the operation of hydraulic and pneumatic systems for all engineers and technicians who wish to have an insight into the components and operation of such a system. This second edition has been fully updated to include all recent developments such as the increasing use of proportional valves, and includes an extra expanded section on industrial safety. It will prove indispensable to all those wishing to learn about hydraulics and pneumatics. * Gives more essential, but simple maths on pipe flow and pressure drops * Offers the latest information on proportional valves and the electronics cards now appearing in hydraulic systems * Includes a new section on safety including European legislation |

River Hydraulics $71.28 This manual presents the techniques and procedures that are used to investigate and resolve river engineering and analysis issues and the associated data requirements. It also provides guidance for the selection of appropriate methods to be used for planning and conducting the studies. Documented herein are past experiences that provide valuable information for detecting and avoiding problems in planning, performing, and reporting future studies. The resolution of river hydraulics issues always requires prediction of one or more flow parameters; be it stage (i.e., water surface elevation), velocity, or rate of sediment transport. This manual presents pragmatic methods for obtaining data and performing the necessary computations; it also provides guidance for determining the components of various types of studies. Author: U. Environmental Hydraulics $165 Hydrodynamic and pollutant transport models are useful tools for evaluating remediation options for polluted water bodies. These models span the range from highly theoretical, fine resolution, physically-based designs to lumped, black-box representations of real world phenomena. This book examines the numerical approaches used in hydrodynamic and pollutant transport modeling. First, the theory and physical basis of transport and mixing in lakes and coastal waters are provided. Methodologies that use a three-dimensional (3D) approach to predicting the fate and transport of pollutants are presented and this is followed by a presentation of alternatives to 3D circulation modeling as well as new advances in the field. These alternatives offer near 3D accuracy but without the computational burden. Illustrations of the calibration and verification of these models using laboratory data, as well as, field data are also provided. The models are applied to a diverse array of study sites ranging from The Great Lakes in North America to the coastal areas of Northern Crete. *Presents the theory of hydrodynamic and pollutant transport modelling in lakes and coastal areas * Thoroughly examines the issues and limitations of the numerical approaches used in hydrodynamic and pollutant transport modelling * Demonstrates the calibration and verification of hydrodynamic and pollutant transport models using laboratory and field data |
