Hydraulic Processes on Alluvial Fans $155 Alluvial fans are among the most prominent landscape features in the American Southwest and throughout the semi-arid and arid regions of the world. The importance of developing a qualitative and quantitative understanding of the hydraulic processes which formed, and which continue to modify, these features derives from their rapid and significant development over the past four decades. As unplanned urban sprawl has moved from valley floors onto alluvial fans, the serious damage incurred from infrequent flow events has dramatically increased. This book presents a concise, coherent discussion of our current and rapidly expanding knowledge of hydraulic processes on alluvial fans. It addresses the subject from a multidisciplinary viewpoint, acquainting the geologist with engineering principles, and the civil engineer and planner with geological principles pertinent to the analysis of hydraulic processes on alluvial fans. The book thus provides much of interest to geologists, civil engineers and planners involved in floodplain management and drainage design in arid and semi-arid regions. |

Hydraulic Power System Analysis $139.95 The excitement and the glitz of mechatronics has shifted the engineering community's attention away from fluid power systems in recent years. However, fluid power still remains advantageous in many applications compared to electrical or mechanical power transmission methods. Designers are left with few practical resources to help in the design and analysis of fluid power systems, especially when approaching fluid power for the first time. Helping you overcome these hurdles, Hydraulic Power System Analysis demonstrates modern computer-aided analytical techniques used to model nonlinear, dynamic fluid power systems. Following an overview of fluid power, the authors examine various relevant fluid properties, energy calculations, and steady state and dynamic analysis along with a review of automatic control theory. Turning to modeling, the next few chapters address valves and motors and then apply dynamic modeling to examples relating to pumps, hydrostatic transmissions, and valves. The book includes a unique chapter showing how to combine flow resistance equations with the differential equations governing dynamic system performance. The final chapter translates electrical circuit theory concepts to noise attenuation in fluid power systems. Illustrated with many equations, practical computer modeling examples, and exercises, Hydraulic Power System Analysis provides a much-needed modernization of dynamic modeling for fluid power systems using powerful computational tools. |

Energy Dissipators and Hydraulic Jump $301.11 The book gives an uptodate review of the flow features in a hydraulic jump, and its technical applications as an energy dissipator. Based on a vast technical literature, the present ideas are summarised, compared with each other and generalised whenever possible. Particular stress is laid on explaining the basic terms, describing effects of energy dissipation on various neighboring fields and presenting prototype experiences with hydraulic jump dissipators. These structures are also compared with other means of energy dissipation found in dam engineering. As a result civil engineers working both in practice and in research may gain an impression of what is actually being done in a rapidly expanding field of applied hydraulics, and obtain additional information on a subject in which reference books are rare. Probabilistic Approach to Hydraulic Analysis $114.71 A probabilitybased method is presented that can be used to simulate 2D velocity distribution in rectangular open channels and to estimate the flow discharge. The method is based on Chius velocity distribution equation. A technique for estimating a parameter of 2D velocity equation has been developed, by which the 2D velocity distribution in rectangular open channels can be simulated by using one or several velocity samples, or even without using any velocity data. The present study also developed an efficient method of discharge estimation in rivers, which is applicable regardless of whether flow is steady or unsteady. It only requires a quick velocity sampling. The relation between the surface velocity and the vertical mean velocity has been studied. It can be used for developing a noncontact method of discharge measurement. Under the same framework of analysis, a new slope area method has been developed to determine the flow discharge. It can reduce errors due to the uncertainties in Mannings n and the energy coefficient that exist in the widelyused slope area method. Numerical Groundwater Flow Modelling $109.93 Groundwater flow modelling is important to calculate the quantity and quality of groundwater for better protection and management. The modelled aquifer is extensively used for irrigation, municipal, and domestic water supplies and this study documents the development and calibration of a numerical model to simulate the groundwater flow. The model is also used to show interaction between groundwater and surface water. A threedimensional groundwater flow model, with one unconfined layer, was used to simulate groundwater flow in the Lake Awassa Basin. A sensitivity analysis to changes in model parameters including horizontal hydraulic conductivity, recharge, and pumpage was made. The study is important to start with for developing a more detailed transient model. Rubber Seals for Fluid and Hydraulic Systems $149 Rubber Seals for Fluid and Hydraulic Systems is a comprehensive guide to the manufacturing and applications of rubber seals, with essential coverage for industry sectors including aviation, oil drilling and the automotive industry. Fluid leakage costs industry millions of dollars every year. In addition to wasted money, unattended leaks can result in downtime, affect product quality, pollute the environment, and cause injury. Successful sealing involves containment of fluid within a system while excluding the contaminants; the resilience of rubber enables it to be used to achieve these two objectives and create a tight sealing effect. A sound understanding of the complex factors involved in successful fluid sealing is essential for engineers who specify, design, operate and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment. This book focuses on the characteristics of rubbers as seals, their manufacturing procedures, the implications of their physical and chemical characteristics for the sealing function in the fluid and hydraulic systems, how rubbers seal and prevent leaks, what properties are required for sealing function, and how they change before and after installation. The chapter on Manufacture of Seals and O'Rings includes approximately 25 workable starting point formulations based on different rubbers, with cure and property data of those formulations as guidelines for technologists and engineers. Emphasis on important areas such as applications of rubber as fluid seals in the nuclear, aviation, oil drilling and automotive industries Includes a chapter on Rubber Expansion Joints as the function of such expansion joints as pipe connectors is indirectly linked with leakage and prevention of fluid flow through the pipes The chapter on Manufacture of Seals and O'Rings includes approx. 25 workable starting point formulations based on different rubbers, with cure and property data of those formulations as guidelines for technologists and engineers |

Hydraulic Design Tables for Pipelines, Sewers and Drainage Lines $55 About the Book: The Book is basically a hydraulic design aid for selection to diameter of pipe and/or deciding gradient of the pipeline to convey water from one place to the other economically. The novel feature of the book is that it highlights the power wasted in overcoming resistance due to friction offered by the surface of pipe in contact with the water. A judicious selection of right size of pipe diameter can save even up to 90% of the power used in transmission of water. The book also helps select appropriate gradient of the pipe line to convey a designed flow through pipe flowing under gravity conditions. It also gives details of flow parameters of partially-flowing circular conduits. This book will be useful to the students and the teachers of the engineering colleges and polytechnics. It will serve as most useful tool to the hydraulic system designers and practicing engineers as well. Contents: Section I:Pipes Flowing Under Pressure, Tables for Discharge and Loss of Head and Power Section II: Pipes Flowing Full Under Gravity, Tables for Discharge and Gradients Required Section III: Hydraulic Parameters of Pipes Flowing Partially Full |
